An ardent cinephile, activist, documentary expert, and seasoned curator of art events. In mid-80s, he worked in Hong Kong film industry for 3 years under directors such as Tsui Hark, Ringo Lam, and Jackie Chan. In 1989, He initiated and set up Videopower to produce socially engaged documentaries with underprivileged groups. While working at the Hong Kong Arts Centre as the Director of the Film and Video Department (1990-2001), he screened 25-30 films a month under various themes and helped building up the infrastructure for local independent productions by setting up a Zeman Media Centre, the Hong Kong Independent Short Film and Video Awards (IFVA), and co-founding Hong Kong – Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF). He has also curated programmes for Hong Kong International Film Festival, Sydney Festival, and Museum of Modern Arts New York (MOMA) and has been on the jury panels of international film festivals in Hong Kong, Taipei, Tainan, Ningbo, Rotterdam, Berlin, Taiwan International Documentary Festival (TIDF) and Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival and pitching forums of CNEX in Hong Kong and Beijing. His last documentary was shown in Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival 1995. Has been appointed co-opt member of Arts Development Council’s Film and Media Arts Committee (1997-2000) and Specialist of Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic & Vocational Qualifications (2008-). He is now teaching part-time at various universities.
