Kelvin Wu is a member of v-artivist and old district autonomy advancement group and Mphil student at the Department of Cultural Studies, Lingnan University,
His participation in urban movement began in 2011, wherein he has worked with tenants who live through the experience of eviction by private landlords or urban redevelopment and participated in their struggle for the right to housing and right to make space in city. While working with the community, he experienced the conviviality and multiplicity of “old neighbourhood" when he encountered people coming from different trajectories and different ethnicities. He has also explored video-making as method for community empowerment, self-representation of residents and grassroots organising.
From 2013 – 2016, he co-produced the documentary project “exodus of nowhere” which discusses the migrational experience and the exclusion of grassroots migrants in Hong Kong and the relation between historical context and individual narration.
His current research touch upon the issue of eviction, mobility, the practices of home for migrants-tenants under urban redevelopment.
